Trekking Cascada, Meseta, Pangal and Los Andes
· Trekking by Andes Mountain Range
These hikes take you through a portion of our 10,000 acre private Nature Sanctuary and are for trekkers who wish to spend all or part of a day hiking in the beautiful Andes Mountain Range. There are many different trails within the Sanctuary to explore - from 20 minutes to all day adventures into the high mountains. Trail access is free to all of our camping and cabin guests. Trails can be utilized by outside visitors who pay an access fee when they arrive at the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary trails are very popular with our campground and cabin guests as well as folks looking for an escape for the day from Santiago.
For those who would like to have a trail guide accompany them, we offer three different guided treks which are detailed below. Great adventures for the entire family, these tours are led by guides who are happy to point out the many spectacular views, as well as the native flora and fauna along the trails.
- Guided "Waterfall Trek"
1/2 to one hour, Available all year
This short trek takes you into the nature sanctuary along a well maintained trail to the spectacular "Cascada de las Animas" (Waterfall of the Spirits). The Cascada is actually a series of three waterfalls which drop over 50 meters (150 feet). Once reaching the base of the first falls you may continue up a steep trail of moderate difficulty which takes you to the base of the first (and highest) of the falls. During the summer months, you can enjoy a refreshing dip into one of the pools at the base of the falls (be sure to bring your swim suit!). Afterwards, we will head back down the trail ending our walk at the entrance gate to the sanctuary.
. Guided "Meseta Trek"
2 or 3 hours, Available all year
We meet at the restaurant near the entrance to the nature sanctuary for a quick orientation before departing. We will follow one of a variety of trails in the sanctuary climbing over 200 meters to a 300 acre "meseta" (plateau). Crossing the meseta you will have an opportunity to see the work of our reforestation projects where we have planted hundreds of native trees. Walking on, we will eventually reach a view point at 1280 meters where we will stop for a break and enjoy the sights. Afterwards, we will follow a different trail down the mountain through the sanctuary, ending our trip back at the restaurant. Afterwards, you can relax and enjoy a beverage or meal, or head over to cool off in the swimming pool or take a sauna.
. Guided "Campana Trek"
4 hours, Available all year
Identical to the "Meseta Trek" except that we continue even higher up into the spectacular Cordillera! After leaving the meseta, the trail climbs steeply upwards to "La Campana" - an 1800 meter, bell shaped mountain that dominates the landscape surrounding the sanctuary. The views are breathtaking as we enter into the realm of the condor. The trail gives us many opportunities to enjoy miles of unobstructed views of the Maipo River and the surrounding mountains. After resting a bit atop La Campana, we head back down the mountain to the Meseta and then follow a different trail down to the Rio Maipo, ending up back at the Restaurant. Afterwards, you can relax and enjoy a beverage or meal, or head over to cool off in the swimming pool or take a sauna.
