Adventures in San Pedro de Atacama
Gentle Adventure
Many of our tours include activities like Trekking, Horseback riding,
Sailing and others that demand high physical exigency to reach destines
that we want to know.
For those that dont want or cannot participate in these activities,
but do want to experience the adventure in some of these destines,
we design an alternative tours that can be enjoyed by any person that
loves the nature and culture of Chile.
· Atacama Desert
To explore the Atacama Desert in an organized way and comfort,
the nights are spent in an exclusive stone hotel that was constructed
with subtle elements of the traditional Andean people.
We will visit Toconao, Atacama Salt Flat, Tatio Geysers and the environs
of San Pedro of Atacama.
The encounter point is Calama city. Excellent excursion for third age, families, couples.
Atacama Desert, in the north of Chile is the driest desert all over the world;
at first sight it seemed that life in this place does not exist.
Nevertheless, flamingos, llamas, vicuņas and guanacos with other species of
Fauna and Flora lived at the oasis and lakes of the area.
The volcanoes that crowned the Atacama Desert are between the highest volcanoes
all around the world and their summits were used as sacred sanctuaries
by the ancient Incas.
Day 1
Calama - San Pedro
Reception at Calama city Airport (11 - 12 AM) and private transfer to San Pedro of Atacama (98 Km),
trough the Sal Mountain Range, where we will find astonishing rocky formations.
Check in at the Hotel and lunch. In the afternoon we will take an etno-tour trough
which we will know about the social and economic system developed by the ancient habitants
to live and work with harmony in these remote oasis. Besides it is possible to know about
the techniques used in this area to work the earth.
The tour will finalize at the archeological ruins of Tulor, sacred village where singular
constructions which origin is a mystery. Lodging at a Hotel.
Day 2
San Pedro - Toconao - Salar de Atacama
The excursion starts visiting Toconao small town,
35 Km from San Pedro town known by its rocky craftsmanship.
We will walk through the Jeria Valley,
where we will observe the typical system of balcony farming.
In the return way we will pass trough Atacama Salt Flat, until reach beautiful Chaxa Gap,
where flamingos and other Andean birds varieties make ones nest.
Returning to San Pedro just in time for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit
the Archeological Museum.
Subsequently we will visit the Quitor fortress ruins, 3 Km. from San Pedro;
their strategic location gives peace and shine to the original habitants of the area,
the Atacameņos (S. XII)until the Incas invasion and the Spanish conquerors (S. XVI).
At sunset we will visit the Moon Valley, to explore their extraordinary rocky formations.
Day 3
Tatio Geysers (4.500m, 270km roundtrip)
We left the hotel to 04:30 hrs. to observe the Tatio geysers in action.
The cold air of the morning does that the columns of steam and water rise until reaching
a height of 40mts. on the surface and 900mts.from the subsoil.
We will take breakfast in this place and we will walk around the geo-thermal field.
In the return way we will be able to see Tocopurri and Sairecahur volcanoes.
Layover afternoon to walk around San Pedro and to visit its picturesque church and
the artisan fair.
Day 4
San Pedro - Calama
Transfer to Calama (9 A.M.) just in time to visit
the mine of Chuquicamata (the copper mine to greatest open edge of the world),
where we will learn about the copper extraction process.
Lunch in Calama, visit to Chiu Chiu (33 km), one of the older habited places of the Atacama zone (1,000 AC). In this town we will find one of oldest and better preserved Hispanic churches of Chile (1.670). We will continue to Lasana fortress strategically located over watching the Loa River. In the evening we will return to Calama to take the flight to Santiago (18-19 p.m.).
