2014 Dakar Rally, Argentina - Bolivia - Chile

For its 6th edition in South America, the Dakar is continuing its exploration of the Argentinean and Chileans regions, by organizing a visit to Bolivia. The 2014 route has been marked out between Rosario in Argentina and Valparaiso in Chile, with the aim of testing the endurance qualities of the Dakar’s drivers and teams. Rosario, Salta and Valparaiso are the three stations which are going to be the axes of the upcoming Dakar route, to be played between 5 and 18 January in 2014. There were no major surprises in the route, since the departure is in Argentina and the arrival in main port of Chile, such as the inclusion of Bolivia and Peru output. Thus, Bolivia becomes the twenty eighth country experiencing the rally since its foundation and the fourth since the race settled in Latin America in 2008.

Rosario and Valparaiso, the two port cities that marked the history of trade through the centuries, are also joined forces athletically with linking in the edition of the Dakar 2014. Dakar riders, who still have the emotional tribute to their visit to our beautiful city of Valparaiso in the 2009 edition, now five years later, probably feel more adrenaline in the finish.

Following the launch in Rosario (Argentina) with a output podium next to the monument to the flag, the rally caravan will head west to the Andes, that will border northbound up to Salta, which will host the January 13 the rest day. At that time, the caravan will fork, only motorcycles and cuadratracks enter in Bolivia, covering the region of Potosí (Uyuni salt flats), while trucks and cars will go directly to Chile, in the Atacama desert, where they will join the rest competitors. The rally will head to the south to Valparaiso, which will host the final on January 18.

The new rally will be a challenge in the coming months and look territories which surprised to participants and maintain full interest. It will have longer trials and several marathon stages that require partners to develop extreme resistance. The rally has been rising in power in Latin America and the incorporation of Bolivia is a new challenge. On January 5,  the  start signal will be given in the canyons and sandy valleys in Argentina, crossing the Bolivian salt flats, continuing through the Atacama Desert, known as the driest desert in the world and conclude in Valparaiso.
