Tourism in Viña del Mar city

Located at only a few kilometers from Valparaiso with which it constitutes a sole urban knot united by multiple streets and avenues.

City of rest and entertaiment. Located at the coast between Caleta Abarca and Las Salinas.

It is the most important Spa City on the Pacific Ocean in South America. Known as the Garden City for displaying big green areas. It has precious beaches, with long and crowded avenues that limit with the ocean. Its activity is continuous by day and at night, especially Valparaiso Street and the Viña del Mar Casino.

The city is characterizeed by its well- attended beaches, modern hotels, beatiful dorm quarters and the activities of the nightlife.

Every year, during the month of February, Viña del Mar gets dressed of elegance for the performance of the Great International Song. Festival, an event of a quality known worldwide, realized in one of the most beautiful natural sceneries as are the gardens of the parks of Quinta Vergara.

Among the most important beaches outstand: Portales, Los Lilenes, Acapulco, 15 Norte, El Sol (The Sun), Salinas, Playa Blanca, The Marineros, Cañitas, Encanto, Cochoa.

The Spa: Caleta Abarca, and Salinas. Further to the north are the Cochoa, Concon, The Lilenes, Amarilla, Negra and Higuerillas.

· Casino Municipal
The Casino is located in the popular San Martin Avenue # 199. It is an imposing building that with its variety of rooms of game, spectacles and restaurants is without a doubt the greater center of attraction during the year. It was inaugurated officially in December 31 of 1930.

· Lago Peñuelas National Reserve
Located about 20 km from Valparaíso. Lago Peñuelas is an artificial reservoir created between 1895 and 1900 to provide drinking water to the higher parts of the cities of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.
This reserve covers 9,260 hectares, and in the surrounding forest can be found species of plants like as quillay, peumo, litre, rosemary, brambles, musk-rose, carob, espino, etc. The forest also provides a habitat for a large number of birds and animals, including chilla and culpeo foxes, coipos, gato montés, cururos, chinchillas, egrets, patos huala, peucos, fish eagles and occasionally coscoroba swans. The lake is the largest center for water birds in the region.
In this area the average annual temperature is 14°C, and the annual rainfall is 520 mm. You can be access from Santiago by road in private vehicle or public transport on Ruta 68 towards Valparaíso. The highway is paved and is open all year round.

· La Campana National Park
La Campana national park, covering 8,000 hectares, was created in 1967. It is separated into three sectors: Granizo, 972 hectares; Cajón Grande, 1,588 hectares; and Ocoa, 5440 hectares. The altitude ranges from 400 to 2,200 meters, and it lies to the south of the Valle de Aconcagua. The highest peaks are El Roble and La Campana; there are no major watercourses, but there are beautiful ravines such as La Oposición, Agua El Manzano and Estero Rabuco.
The weather is mediterranean and is influenced by the mists from the coast. There is rain in winter, while the summer is very hot. The average annual temperature is 13.8C, with an annual rainfall of 798 mm.
The flora in the park includes the Chilean Palm, or Kan Kan as our ancestors called them. They can reach a height of 30 meters and live for up to 1,000 years. They used to be found almost throughout the country, but their distribution today is limited to certain areas. Examples of this species can be found in the Ocoa sector, where it is protected. The forest which can be seen practically throughout the park includes species such as: peumo, quillay, boldo, litre, bollen, colihue, chagual, canelo, belloto, patagua, palosanto, maqui and radal. There are also small groups of roble de Santiago.
The mammals of the sector include culpeo fox, chilla fox, quique and gato colo colo, as well as more common species such as degú, ratón chinchilla, cururo and vizcacha. There are more than 50 species of birds, of which the easiest to see are diuca, chincol, perdiz, chercán, picaflor gigante, zorzal and tenca. Raptors include eagles and aguiluchos, tucuquere, concón, lechuza (barn owl) and chuncho (pygmy owl).
Here are several campsites in the park where you can enjoy being out in the open air. At the entrance to each sector there are Park Wardens’ Offices with checkpoints and information for visitors.
There are two access routes to the park: to the Ocoa sector, 100 km from Santiago via the Carretera Panamericana Norte; and to the Granizo and Cajón Grande sectors, 70 km from Viña del Mar, on the Viña del Mar – Olmué road.

How to get to Viña del Mar



By Car:
One of the alternatives to arrive to Viña del Mar is through the 68 Route entering Valparaiso and following the correct sign to arrive to Viña. The Freeway Viña - Valparaiso has 5,5 km and begins in Caleta Abarca.
Also a direct route to Viña del Mar exists from 68 Route towards Variante Agua Santa or 66 Route, to cross a pretty way with views to the Valparaiso Bay and the beaches of Viña del Mar.

By bus:
