Trips around Valparaíso - Visiting the Port Quarter

This is the central part of the city. It stretches out between The Plaza de la Aduana and The Plaza Sotomayor. It is interesting to visit:

Visiting the Hills and View Points

These are residential places that turn Valparaiso into a famous site. It is interesting to visit there: - The Yugoslavo Sidewalk that is located 45 meters above the sea level.
- The Baburizza Palace where the Museum of Bellas Artes is placed.
- The Gervasoni Sidewalk., a view point above the cliffs.

Visiting the Hills of Valparaiso

This trip comprises the best sights of the city. It is interesting to visit:

- Camino de Cintura, a street that connects the chain of the hills that surround Valparaiso.
- La Sebastiana, the famous poet Pablo Neruda´s last residence.
- Cerro Alegre, a popular hill.

Caleta El Membrillo. From this place, you can see, in the mornings, the arrival of the handmade boats full of fish. Fishermen sell the fish, directly, to the customers. In this place, you can find seafood restaurants, especially, in the famous restaurant “El Castillo” that is located on a hill.

Playa Las Torpederas (Beach) A calm water beach surrounded by paths and gardens.

Laguna Verde (Lake). A little town dedicated to tree exploitation and agriculture. In here, there is a quiet spa that contains beaches of white sand enclosed in a bay and surrounded by high mountains which are covered by rocky walls and pine trees. The place also counts with various accommodations and camping areas.

Caleta de Quintay A fishermen town that is surrounded by a little beach. Near to the Caleta, the ruins of La Ballenera, an old industrial complex oriented to the processing of cetaceans, are situated.

Palacio Ross Declared a National Monument in 1976. It is located in Salvador Donoso 1337. The palace building faces onto both Avenida Brasil and Calle Bellavista. It was constructed between 1888 and 1890 and enlarged in 1929. Today it is the clubhouse of the German Club.

Estación Barón Clock Tower Declared a National Monument in 1972.It is located between Avenida España and Avenida Argentina. The tower is built of exposed brick-work, 15.20 meters high, with an interior wooden staircase giving access to the workings of the clock, which was made in England. It dates from 1865 and its location is the site of the station where the first rail was laid for the line which connected Santiago with Valparaíso.

Valparaíso Customs House Declared a National Monument in 1976. It stands between Calle Bustamante and Calle Lord Cochrane. The building was constructed by a North American, John Brown, in the American colonial style in 1854. It has stuccoed brick walls 1.20 meters thick, and is raised on stone foundations. The roof, staircase and supports of the second storey are of wood.
