It is one of the oldest cities in Chile and it is known as the “pearl of the rivers”. It is a modern city which mixes traditional and modern architecture of German Influence.

Club Deportivo Phoenix
The Phoenix Sports Club is situated on the bank of the Río Valdivia. It was founded by German settlers in 1880 and is one of the oldest clubs in Chile.
Actually it has an area of 4.2 hectares with a social and sports complex. It also has an indoor gym, swimming pool, athletics track, tennis court and a rugby pitch.
Corporación Cultural Municipal
This center is located on the costanera next to Muelle Schuster, and a few yards from the riverside market. It offers visitors a range of cultural exhibitions, paintings, sculpture, music, handicrafts, etc.
Isla de Mancera
Isla de Mancera is located in the middle of Corral bay, and is well known for its church and fort. Every summer, in January, the traditional "Mancera Music Week" takes place.
Their main attractions are the San Pedro de Alcántara fort, the construction of which dates back to 1645, and the remains of a baroque church built in 1777.
There are small beaches around the island but no tourist infrastructure has been developed.
Mercado Fluvial de Valdivia
This market is located beside the pier from which the pleasure launches sail. It is the main market of the city, and there is fish and seafood for sale. It can be reached by the street going down from the square, beside the Town Hall. Here the fishing boats come in to sell their catches and other boats come down the rivers from inland to offer their produce.
Mercado Municipal de Valdivia
A visit to the municipal market in Valdivia is a must. Here you will find a number of restaurants offering traditional food, especially the fish and seafood of the region. Here you can also appreciate local handicrafts, and during the summer you can visit the book-fair.
Jardín Botánico de la Universidad Austral de Chile
This Botanic Garden is situated on the bank of the Cau Cau river. Here you can see a collection of some 1,000 native and exotic cultivated plants, apart from different species of flowers. It was founded in 1955 by the first rector of the university.
Universidad Austral de Chile
Is possible visit the university buildings and gardens, including the Botanic Garden which is the most important. There is also a university canteen and the Milk Technology Center.
