Plains of Maipo
These are great plains irrigated by the Maipo River. During the colony, these lands were semi-desert. In the 18th century, the San Carlos channel was built by the Jesuits. Due to the construction of other channels, the valley turned into an agricultural garden.
The famous grapevines of Maipo came from here.
It has modern hotels and restaurants.

Laguna de Aculeo - Lagoon
This is a summer camp where it is possible to practice activities like ski, sailing and fishing.
The lagoon is divided in two parts: the southern shore and the northern shore. The latter one counts with several clubs, restaurants and hotels; apart from many facilities for nautical sports.
Rancagua Valley
It crosses the south part of Angostura del Paine. It is a purely agricultural zone.
Rancagua
It is the Capital of the region Libertador Bernardo O`Higgins.
It was the homeland of the Picunches and, later, of the Incas.
Tourist Attractions:
Ski Center Chapa Verde. It is located 145 kilometers from Santiago de Chile and 60 kilometers from Rancagua.
Hotel Termas de Cauquenes. It is located at an altitude of 766 meters above the sea level. It is well known because of its medicinal waters that are meant to be appropriate for the treatment of different diseases.

Valley of Cachapoal
It is located to the south of the Rancagua valley and it is considered the seat of the purest Chilean "huasa" tradition. These lands were the homeland of many native populations.
Huge water channels were built for irrigation in the 19th century. The most famous one is the Larmahue Channel that is situated to the south of Cochapoal.
Nowadays, the zone is considered a real garden and the seat of some big agricultural companies, among which it is possible to mention: Rosa de Sofruco and Viña de Concha y Toro. The towns of Malloa, Peumo, Requinoa and Rengo are placed in the zone too.
Tourist Attractions:
Doñihue. This is an old town where the Incas settled with the aim of expanding their lands to the south.
Due to its excellent climate, the fruits of Doñihue are famous. Also, the tradition of the Chilean “huaso” has always been present here.
Lago Rapel. It is located 45 kilometers from Santiago (100 meters above the sea level).
It is a beautiful artificial lake with excellent climate. It comprehends precious landscapes. It counts with good hotels, camping centers and equipment for nautical sports.
