Surire Salar - Natural Monument
Distance: 270 Kilometers away from Iquique
The Surire or Surire Salt Pit, 4.200 meters above the sea level, has a drying out salty lake which is surrounded by volcanoes and autochthonous flora and fauna species. It comprehends a surface of 11,298 hectares.
Its name comes from the typical animal species of the region: the "suri" or the “ñandu”.
This zone presents a great thermal oscillation, the temperatures fluctuates between -15°C in winter nights and 5°C during the day.
