Surire Salar Natural Monument

Distance: 270 Kilometers away from Iquique

Surire or Surire Salt Pit, at an altitude of 4.200 meters above sea level. It has a drying out salty lake, surrounded by volcanoes, autochthonous flora and fauna. It has a surface of 11,298 hectares.

Its name must to the species animal characteristic of the called place "suri" or ñandu.

This zone is of great thermal oscillation, fluctuating its temperatures between -15°C in the nights of winter and 5°C during the day.
