· Porvenir, a small city constituted mainly by the descendants of the Yugoslavs - Hotels Booking ·

Tourism in the City of Porvenir

Distance: 47 Kilometers away from Puerto Natales
Main Activity: Tourism, Mining, Cattle - Bearing and Fishing

In order to arrive to this small city, it is necessary to take a 3 hours journey from Punta Arenas; passengers take their transportation from Tres Puentes.

During the trip, except in a rainy day, you will have the best sight of Punta Arenas and the coasts of the Magallanes Strait.

It is the Capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego. This small city, 7,000 inhabitants, is inhabited by Yugoslavs` descendants who settled the place at the end of the Nineteen Century; they all were attracted mainly by the extraction of gold.

Leaving Porvenir, you can go towards the island of Tierra del Fuego, a place that was discovered by Hernando de Magallanes, who gave it this name because of the Indian bonfires (onas).

It is interesting to visit the Marine Weirs, formed by stones of different sizes which are covered by high tides. It is recommendable to visit too the Blanco Lake, with abundant trout of the brownie type. This place is surrounded by tress.
