Chilean Populations in the Fourth Region

Ovalle Town

Distance: 130 Kilometers away from La Serena
Main Activity: Agriculture and Fruit Growing

This town is located 130 kilometers from La Serena. Its principal activities are agriculture, fishing, and fruit production.

The population of Del Limari is a place of fertile and green valleys devoted to agriculture and fruit growing.

It is interesting to visit the Archeological Museum, San Vicente Church, Limari Museum, Peñones Spa, Sotaqui and Combarbala Towns and the artisan community of Ovalle.

Illapel Town

Distance: 300 Kilometers away from La Serena
Main Activity: Agriculture and Fruit Growing

this is the capital of Choapa. It preserves colonial style buildings and green open fields.

It is located 350 meters above the sea level. A traditional city devoted to mining, cattle-bearing and agriculture.

It is interesting to visit the Cathedral, The Historic and Archaeological Museums. The Pimientos Municipal Spa, The Illapel River, Puntilla House, and the Villarroel House.

Salamanca Town

Distance: 32 Kilometers away from Illapel
Main Activity: Agriculture

A population that presents a rich cultural past placed on several lord houses located in little towns placed in the surroundings; it also has rich folkloric traditions.

It is situated 500 meters above the sea level. This is a gentle city surrounded by a fertile landscape.

Its Christian festivities of The Holy Weed are very popular because of its processions, parades, typical careers and other activities.

It is interesting to visit the Manquehua Cave, the San Agustin House, Tambo Church, Tambo Spa, the Chuchiñi Farmhouse and the La Cruz Hill.

Paihuano Town

Distance: 30 Kilometers away from Vicuña

This is an important population because, on its surroundings, there are three communities of national and international reputation: Montegrande, Pisco Elqui and Cochiguaz.

Pisco Elqui Valley

Distance: 90 Kilometers away from La Serena

A town that belongs to the Río Claro valley. It is located 90 kilometers from La Serena. It has an altitude of 1280 meters. It possesses various hotel facilities.

It keeps diverse and famous “pisco” distilleries: Pisco Tres Erres, Los Nichos and Pisco Peralta.

A small town placed on a hill that was called Union; this name was changed in 1939.

It is interesting to visit: Nuestra Señora del Rosario Chapel, the Pisco Elqui solarium and the oldest distillery of Pisco (pisco = a liquor very similar to clear brandy).
