Humberstone Saltpeter Office
It is located 52 km from the city of Iquique. This office was established in 1862 and then, it was declared a National Monument. It was called Palma, later, when it changed owners, the actual name was adopted in 1934.
Humberstone worked until 1960, while the saltpeter business takes down. The buildings have been well conserved and you can go in and appreciate the opulent construction. One clear illustration is the theater, placed in the main square; it still preserves the original chairs. You can also see the church, which has been recently restored.
Walking around, you will find a steel swimming pool with a bamboo roof, as well as tennis courts, houses of old miners, one store and the administration building.
It is necessary to pay a ticket in order to visit these structures.
