Humberstone Saltpeter Office

Is located at 52 km from the city of Iquique. This office was established in 1862 and declared a National Monument. It has named Palma, later when it changed owners; the name was adopted by the actually name, this happened in 1934.

Humberstone worked until 1960, while the saltpeter business takes down. The buildings have been well conserved and you can go in and appreciate their opulent construction. One clear illustration is the theater, around in the main square and still has the original chairs. You can also see the church, which has been recently restored.

Walking around you will find a steel swimming pool with a bamboo roof, tennis courts, houses of old miners, one store and the administration build.
