Tourism in Chiloé Island
Distance: 135 Kilometers away from Puerto Montt
It is a group of islands formed by rugged sediments, it is located in the Southern part of Chile.
Chiloé comprises the Isla Grande de Chiloé, the Archipelago of the inner islands, the fiord of Coman and the fiord of Remihue. The main attractions of this zone are its several islands.
The Isla Grande de Chiloé. It is 180 kilometers long and 50 kilometers wide. It is covered by great masses of quaternary glazier deposits. The rest of the territory is formed by plateaus, recommended for sub artic cultivations and covered by coniferous woods.
Archipelago of Chiloé. It comprehends a group of 5 islands:
- Quehui, including 2 islands.
- Chaulinec, including 3 islands.
- Desertores, including 6 islands.
- Chauques, including 16 islands.
You can get access to these islands by departing from Castro, except Lemuy and Quinchao.
How to get there
There are three ports from where the boat traffic departs to the islands:
Castro. Daily departures to the islands of Chelin and Quehui. (Returning the same day).
Achao. Daily departures to the islands of Chaulinec and Apiao. (Returning the same day).
Tenaun. Weekly departures to the island of Chauques.
It is also possible to rent boats in order to visit the archipelago.
