Tourism in Chiloe Island
Distance: 135 Kilometers away from Puerto Montt
It is a group of islands formed by very rugged and somewhat metamorphosized
sediments, located on the most Southern part of Chile.
Chiloe comprises Isla Grande de Chiloé, the archipelago of the inner islands. Plus the
fyord of Coman to the fyord of Remihue. The main attractiveness of this zone
are its several islands.
The Isla Grande de Chiloe, with a 180 kilometers long and 50 kilometers wide. It
is covered by great masses of quaternary glazier deposits; the rest of the
territory is formed by shaly plateaus, very apt for subartic cultivations and
covered in a great extensive by coniferous woods.
Archipelago of Chiloe. It comprises the group of 5 islands:
- Quehui, comprising 2 islands.
- Chaulinec, comprising 3 islands.
- Desertores, comprising 6 islands.
- Chauques, comprises 16 islands.
These islands from the archipelago are located across from castro, except Lemuy
and Quinchao which can be reached by car.
How to get there
There are three ports that connect the boat traffic to the islands:
Castro. Daily departures to the islands Chelin and Quehui. (return the same day).
Achao. Daily departures to the islands Chaulinec and Apiao. (return the same day).
Tenaun. Weekly departures to the group of islands of Chauques.
It is recommnended to rent boats to visit the archipelago.
