A city located at 86 kilometers from Caldera. Capital of the province.

A city of great commercial and tourist activity and considered an important resting point for the buses heading north. It is besides an important traffic of passengers.

It is interesting to visit: El Ensueño House. Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Molina House. Natural Museum of Charañal.

It has a 5 Kilometers extent and shallow beach, with fine and white sands which makes it safe for sport swimming and sea bathing. The most important beaches are the Chañaral and the Refugio.

Site Attractions:

· Barquitos Port
This small port was founded in 1916 by Andes Coppers Mining Company. The construction concept contemplated a thermoelectrically base, a wharf and a railway line. In 1917 was finished the constructing of the wharf and the thermoelectrically plant initiated functions in 1927. This port finalized its functions in September 9 of 1981.
The Loberías de Barquitos can also be visited, located about 4 km. to the south of Chañaral, where viewpoints near roquerío exist where the marine wolves rest.
