Tourism in Chaiten city

Main Activity: Tourism, Commerce and Fishing

From Puerto Montt to the town of Hornopiren, it is a 110 kilometers journey after which you can take the direct ferry to Caleta Gonzalo.

Itinerary: Hornopiren - Caleta Gonzalo (both ways). Departures from January to March.

On the 50th. kilometre, approximately, is the camping area Los Arrayanes, close to the beach. Farther ahead, on the kilometre 56 you cross the port and ferry dock to get to Chaiten.

Chaiten, capital of the province of Palena. It has good hotel and tourist infrastructure (restaurants and camping areas).

There is a paved aerodrome with daily flights to Puerto Montt.

It is interesting to walk along the shore boulevard and visit the volcanoe Corcovado.

Puerto Cardenas. Located at 48 kilometers from Chaiten. A small town at a lake with accomodations for sport - fishermen. From Puerto Cardenas there are fishing journeys to Lake Yelcho.

Lago Yelcho. A beautiful lake formed due to glaciers, with emerald-green water. From Puerto Cardenas there are journeys around the lake and for fishing from 1 to 6 days.

It is interesting to visit the tourist complex Yelcho in the Patagonia.

Palena. Following the road from Puerto Ramirez you can get to the town of Palena.A small town that counts with all basic services. There is an aerodrome. Among its activities there is sport fishing in the river Palena with good salmon fishing from October to December.
