Tourism in the City of Caldera

Caldera is situated 75 km to the northeast of Copiapo, 882 km from Santiago and 1,192 km to the south of Arica.
Main Activity: Seaport Spa

This city was founded in 1852.  In earlier times, it was the principal port of Copiapo.  Valuable minerals were extracted and exported from the mine of Chañarcillo. Today, one of the most important resorts of the region is placed here.
All through the year, the port shows a diverse commerce, especially, grapes destined to international markets. It is also an important unloading point for traditional and industrial fishermen.
It is considered the most important summer center of the region. It is formed by three bays connected by paved roads, each one with warm water beaches.

It possesses the deepest trenches of the world.
It counts with good tourist facilities.

It is interesting to visit: The Mackenzie House, the Ex Train Station, The Cave of Padre Negro.

How to get to Caldera

By Bus: There are daily regular departures that leave from Copiapo to other cities. Check out at the local bus terminals for timetable details.

By Car: If you are coming from the north or south of Chile, you need to take either the route 5 or the Panamericana towards Copiapo. From there, you should take the road to the coast and you will arrive to the Bahía Inglesa and Caldera.

By Plane: You can take one of the frequent flights from Santiago to Caldera, and from there, you can take another form of transportation to cover the remaining 20 Km.
