ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF SAN MIGUEL DE AZAPA
This museum keeps one of the most important archeological and anthropological native heritages of Chile, showing evidence of a cultural development of more than 10.000 years of history.
Outside the museum there is a park of petroglyphs; and inside it, there is a chronological exhibit that goes from the pre Chinchorro hunters and fishermen ages (mummies that are being exhibited of this culture are the oldest in the world), to the current aimara shepherds
HOW TO GET
ACCESS:
The starting point is Colón Square, take San Marcos Street, and turn to the north by Maximo Lira, continuing through Costanera Chilena Avenue up to Diego Portales Avenue where you have to turn to the East. Continue straight ahead until you get to the Azapa roundabout. Here the road to the valley starts, or route A-27. At Km 12, turn to the north and after a few meters you will find the access to the museum.
TRANSPORTATION
There are collective-yellow taxis that travel from the city to Azapa Valley several times a day. The taxi terminal is located on the corner of Chacabuco Street and Patricio Lynch.
