Tourism in Antofagasta city

Distance: 1.361 kilometers away from Santiago
Main Activity: Copper Extraction and Fishing

An important city that characterizes for growing from a long and narrow land strip boarding the coast as far as the foothills of the Mountain range of the Coast. This zone is outstanding for its good and almost permanent sunny weather.

A peculiar characteristic is that the copper extraction out of the open-pit copper mines most important all over the world: Chuquicamata and La Escondida

Antofagasta is considered the fifth most populated city of Chile.

It is interesting to visit the saltpeter offices of San Francisco Puelma and Chacabuco. Both located at 100 kilometers of Antofagasta.

Balneario Juan Lopez (spa), located at 31 kilometers from Antofagasta. It lays on a closed bay in the shape of a horseshoe, and protected from the wind. The beach has five gray sand with calm and warm water.

Balneario de Hornitos (spa), located at 91 kilometers from Antofagasta. Beautiful beach of fine sand and warm water. It is surrounded by the cliffs of the coastal platean. There are areas for camping and picnics.

Observatorio Astronómico Austral Europeo (observatory).
It is located approximately at 136 kilometers from Antofagasta. Located on the mountain Paranal at an altitude of 2664 m.s.n.m.

Village of TalTal. Located at approximately 280 kilometers from Antofagasta. Neat, little city. The main activities are fishing and mining.

A coastal town famous for the abundance of "red conger". Across from its coasts is one of the deepest trenches all over the world.

It is interesting to visit: The church of San Francisco. Ex Maritima Gobernacion Building. Arturo Prat Square. The House of Culture. La Puntilla. The Gruta of Virgen de Lourdes. The Ferrocarril Salitrero and the steam locomotive.

Among its most important beaches are: Las Tórtolas, Cifuncho, the Tierra del Moro, Poza La Tortuga and Muelle de Piedra, Las Lozas, Cachinales, Matancillas and Bandurrias, all with abundant fishing.
