It comprises the northern zone of the Chiloe Island, from the Chacao Channel to Quemchi in the south.
This is the most important city of Chiloe. Its name means "a land readied for sowing". It can be reached by modern ferries or boats that cross the Chacao Channel.
The city has a specific architectural style: a conglomerate of pieces of roofing wooden tiles that are combined with modern buildings surrounded by narrow streets, coastlines and squares. Crossing by Ferry:
From Puerto Montt, approximately 60 kilometers from the Panamerican Route, in the town of Pargua, the dock of ferries that cross the Chacao Channel is situated.
From Ancud, an approximately distance of 95 kilometers through a short ferry trip. The city has a port due to the commercial sea traffic among the islands.
